Amazing budget-friendly, self-service skewer place. The chef of the group needs to keep an eye on the skewers to make sure they don’t get overcooked, catch fire, or fall into the grill. There’s a wide variety of options, so everyone can find something they like. For me, the lamb skewers are a classic and the best choice. The chairs and tables are quite low, perhaps intended to recreate the feel of a Chinese street-side setup? I’m probably just getting too old—my back started hurting after sitting there for a few minutes. 😂 Other than that, everything was amazing!

Had such a fun experience at Chubby Skewers in Manhattan! The skewers were delicious, with lots of different options to choose from. I really enjoyed picking my own skewers and grilling them at the table which made the whole meal more fun and unique. The food was flavorful, the atmosphere was lively, and it’s a great place to go with friends, family or gf/bf. Although everything was good, the waiting time is so long at night.I waited for almost 1hour to get my table. Definitely recommend trying it if you’re in Manhattan! I’ll definitely come back again.

A very good DIY Chinese BBQ restaurant. Plenty of food selections, beef, pork, chicken, veggies and other interesing items (gizzard, tongue, intestine etc.) There are also many things made to order. The beverage and alcohol selection was also vast. I liked the Snow Beer Classic. Service was mostly good and attentive. But occasionally it would take a bit long to get my orders (draft beer in pitcher for example). The short chair and lower than usual grill table setting were interesting, as if we were really at a street-side BBQ with simple set up. But the low table height also meant that we were not able to put our legs under the table, but rather we had to spread our legs. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone into BBQ skewered stuff.

This buffet-style Chinese skewer spot offers a fun, izakaya-like experience with a fantastic variety of both meat and veggie options. The skewers are very reasonably priced, and cooking them yourself right at the table makes for a highly engaging and interactive meal. Thankfully, the waitstaff is very attentive and informative, making sure to guide you through the cooking process so everything goes smoothly. The restaurant itself spans two floors, making the dining room incredibly spacious and well-equipped to accommodate large groups. It is worth noting, however, that if you are at all sensitive to smoke, this might not be the right place for you. The entire restaurant gets quite smoky, so you should definitely expect to leave smelling like a mix of smoke and grilled meat! If you don't mind that campfire vibe, though, this is an excellent and highly affordable spot for delicious Chinese skewers with friends.

Had a great experience at Chubby Skewers in Midtown. The concept is really fun because you get to grill the skewers yourself at the table, which makes it more interactive than a typical BBQ restaurant. The variety is impressive — from wagyu beef and lamb to seafood and vegetables. Everything tasted fresh and was well seasoned. The wagyu skewers were definitely a highlight, tender and flavorful without being overly greasy. The lamb skewers also had a great balance of spices. What stood out to me was the atmosphere. The restaurant feels lively and authentic, especially if you’re looking for a late-night spot with friends. Service was attentive, and the staff were quick to help whenever we had questions or needed more items. Prices were reasonable considering the quality and location in Manhattan. Portions were good, and there were plenty of options to try different flavors without spending a fortune. A small tip for first-time visitors: try to get a seat on the first floor if available, and come hungry because you’ll probably end up ordering more skewers than you planned. Overall, one of the better Chinese BBQ experiences I’ve had in NYC. Will definitely be back.
